About Me

family counseling to save your family

Raising a teenager is more difficult than I had ever imagined it would be. What had made it more difficult is the fact that my husband and I had separated and were contemplating getting a divorce. You know, teenagers are hormonal and emotional enough without parents throwing a wrench into their daily lives. Instead of giving up on our family, we all started going to a family therapist to get some help. It has helped us all a lot because we have learned how to talk to each other and discuss the problems that we had rather than screaming and not dealing with any of the issues at hand.

Addicted To Drugs? Tips To Recover To Get Your Life Back To Normal

If you are addicted to drugs, this can be difficult to deal with on your own. This is especially true if you have been on drugs for a long time. Fortunately, there are drug recovery services to help you. Keep reading to learn more so you can get started on your journey of being drug-free.

Drug Detoxification

When you visit a drug recovery service they will first determine if you need to go through drug detoxification. This is the process of getting the drug or drugs out of your system so you can start your treatment.

Detoxification is uncomfortable and not something you should do on your own. You will have many symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You may also shake and shiver and start sweating. You may experience headaches, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure, heart racing, chills, and much more. There are also psychological withdrawal symptoms you may experience, such as confusion, insomnia, paranoia, irritability, agitation, intense cravings for the drug you are addicted to, hallucinations, and more.

The doctor may give you medication to help you go through the process. You will not get addicted to this medication, but it will help with your withdrawal symptoms. The doctor and/or nurse will monitor you 24/7 until you get through the process. How long the detox will last depend on how much of the drug was in your system.

Inpatient Treatment

There is inpatient treatment where you live at the drug treatment rehab facility full time. This is beneficial if you are highly addicted and are not ready to deal with the outside world.

During inpatient treatment, you may have both individual counseling and group counseling. Individual counseling can help as you will be more open to talking about your drug addiction. The therapist can help you determine why you started using drugs, as well as what your triggers are so you can stay away from them. The therapist will also help you learn how to deal with cravings after you leave the facility.

Group counseling is sitting with a group of people that are going through the same process. This can be helpful as knowing there are other people feeling the same way you do. These people may also have tips and tricks of things to do once you leave the facility.

The treatment facility will likely suggest you continue your treatment with outpatient therapy when you leave the center.
